This month, we’re delighted to introduce you to Jerome Ahrendse, a valued member of the ESI Attorneys team since 2019. With a calm and steady presence – and a good dose of mischief – Jerome plays a vital role in ensuring that everything runs smoothly behind the scenes, from court runs to document collections and deliveries.
Jerome grew up in Woodlands, Mitchells Plain, the youngest of eight children in a close-knit family where everything was done together. He fondly recalls a childhood filled with treasured memories and friendships that have stood the test of time. He also happens to be a twin, a fun fact that often surprises those who get to know him!
His journey into the working world began early. After leaving school in Grade 11 due to challenging circumstances, Jerome took his first job in 1999 as a packer at Acolade Trading in Epping. His path soon led him to the legal field, where he worked at Republic Trustees, a liquidation firm. There, he gained valuable experience navigating the High Court, Magistrates Court and Master’s Office – experience he has carried with him through the past 19 years.
Since joining ESI Attorneys as a driver and clerk, Jerome has become an indispensable part of the team. His day often starts with a strong cup of coffee before heading off to the Deeds Office for lodgements, the Master’s Office for estate queries and various municipal departments to collect consents and rates clearances. He also assists with delivering title deeds and countless other behind-the-scenes tasks that keep the firm running efficiently.
But Jerome is more than just dependable, he’s also the office prankster! Known for giving colleagues a fright or cracking a perfectly timed joke, he brings laughter wherever he goes. He’s got a nickname for everyone and never misses an opportunity to lift the mood. Despite the jokes, Jerome is incredibly reliable and always willing to help, even on weekends. His famous words, “I can organise,” are more than just a saying — he really can organise just about anything. He is truly one of ESI’s most valuable team members.
Outside of work, Jerome is a proud husband to Kayleen (who works in the estates department at ESI) and a devoted father to their three children: Taegan, Gian Luke, and Kyra. He considers the family they’ve built his greatest achievement and his deepest joy.
In his spare time, you’ll find Jerome at the braai with music playing, dancing the night away with his loved ones. His life motto says it all: “Do not let anyone steal your joy.” And if you’ve met Jerome, you’ll know: joy is exactly what he brings.
