MEET THE TEAM: DEYONA MAY

This month, we are pleased to introduce Deyona May, one of the newest members of the ESI Attorneys team. Since joining us in October 2025, Deyona has already become a valued part of our daily operations, bringing warmth, efficiency and a wealth of legal experience to her role.

Growing Up and Family Life

Deyona grew up in Mitchells Plain, where she completed both her primary and high school education. As the eldest of four siblings – one brother and twin sisters – she learned responsibility early on. She describes her family as loving and supportive, with parents who made childhood special through regular camping trips and memorable road trips, a tradition that still holds a special place in her heart.

Today, Deyona is married and the proud mom of two daughters, who she considers her greatest achievement.

Her Career Journey

Deyona started working straight out of school and began her legal career at one of the Big 5 law firms in the Western Cape. She started as a filing clerk and, through determination and hard work, worked her way up to a collections secretary. Over the years, Deyona has built broad experience across various law firms, gaining hands-on exposure in conveyancing, litigation and collections. This well-rounded background has shaped her into the capable and dependable professional she is today.

Her Role at ESI Attorneys

At ESI, Deyona wears two important hats. As Diary Administrator, she is an important point of contact for our clients, making that much-anticipated call to let them know their documents are ready to be signed. Some of her most rewarding moments come from speaking to first-time home owners and sharing in their excitement and joy.

In her role as Deeds Office Manager, Deyona liaises closely with Deeds Office clerks and secretaries to manage all steps of the registration process. She also works hand in hand with the conveyancer executing the deeds to ensure smooth communication and timely confirmation of registration.

Life Beyond the Office

Outside of work, Deyona and her family love spending time outdoors. Camping and road trips remain firm family favourites, echoing the adventures of her own childhood and creating new memories with her daughters.

Words to Live By

Deyona lives by a simple but powerful principle: “Be kind to people, you never know what they are going through.” Polite, kind and caring by nature, she brings this value into every interaction with colleagues, clients, and everyone she meets.
